Ah summer nights!  I take pride in really soaking in the little things. My morning coffee brings me joy, but so do my summer evenings of reading and Twitter Chats.

Uh-oh, I'm feeling a deep reflection: Don't get me wrong, reading is hard work... always had been for me. I can read something and forget it a moment later. My  mind wanders, my focus is horrid, but my drive is there. I just keep trying. I have always wanted to love it, and I do enjoy it, but I just wish it wouldn't take me so long. Sometimes I need to reread the same paragraph numerous times in order to just grasp the idea. I look back though on how far I have come since school. I got by with average grades, was never labeled as a struggling reading, and had great skills for coping. I think all of this has truly helped me with becoming a strong teacher. I made it, I found strategies to survive, and I love being able to share that with my students. It is great that they know I am human, and I had struggles... but I had the drive, the desire to succeed.

Cheers to drive, challenges, support, & success!

A Dream Come True!

Each year I have rearranged my classroom in hopes of finding that "perfect fit".  This year, Target helped us with a big piece of my goal... flexible seating! I created a project on Donor's Choose, and thanks to the generosity of Target, our project was funded! I wanted to give my students choice. Each learner is different, so providing a wide variety of seating options was extremely important to me. I slowly introduced one new area a week, and this week we were finally able to introduce our last area (at least for now).

Below you will see a wide variety of seating options: 2 Standing desks, coffee table, pub table, round table with stools, floor cushions, 2 T Stools, Pedal stations, reading chairs, and of course they are always allowed to lay on the floor during work time.

Please, don't ever hesitate with questions!

Changes!

I was MIA for a very long time, but for good reason.  I needed to take some time to focus on the school year AND our wedding!  Planning a wedding during the school year is no joke! Whew. Completely worth it as I head into summer with no stress! :) We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! Miss Boucher is now Mrs. Blackburn! <3

20 Questions

It's that time of the year, much like the beginning of the year, where our routines are either ending or completely mixed up. Here is a quick activity you can do with your students at any time. I use these 20 Questions at the beginning of the year to see what their first impressions are, but it can also be used at the end of the year to see what they have learned.

Check out my TPT to see the rest! :)
ENJOY!

FALL In Love With 5th Grade

Our 5th Grade team had decided we wanted to create an interactive board for parents to utilize while they wait during conferences.  We came up with the idea, "FALL In Love With 5th Grade!"  Students filled in a leaf (each class used a color) and stated when they fell in love with 5th Grade (something we have done that they really enjoyed).  After they finished writing the students took a selfie, and linked the selfie through a QR Code.  The QR code was printed and glued to the leaf.  Parents went around reading the leaves and scanning them to try and find the one their child wrote. It was great to see the students' excitement when their parent found theirs!

ENJOY!
