Pizzeria Transformation

Today was an absolute delight!  We had our Pizzeria Day and it couldn't have gone any better.

Staff members signed up to be "customers" and my kiddos were beyond excited to go into their rooms and deliver. Students had to solve a task card (finding parts of a whole), each one was assigned to a specific teacher. Once they had the answer they brought it to the teacher.  The teacher would pay them if it was correct, and would tip if they had positive customer service.

While each team had a teammate out of the room delivering, the rest of the members were in "overtime" earning extra cash for completing extra challenges. These tasks included long division, adding decimals and rounding decimals to specific places (but they had to remember our rule that when it is $ you round up to make sure the bill is covered).

I have a link here to my TPT if you want to check out the activity. :)

Superhero Success

Another transformation has been complete!  Today we had our students take part in a Successful Superhero Traning, as a way to work on our test prep skills for the Forward Exam.

Students focused on six areas: Perseverance, Determination, Focus, Positivity, Endurance, & Accuracy. Each area had a different task to be completed (Growth Mindset, reading directions, responding to reading passages, fixing mistakes, finding main idea, and multistep word problems)

It was a SUPER MARVEL-ous Day! (I'm exhausted!)

Set The Stage To Engage- Figurative Language Jungle

Hello Fellow Bloggers,

This busy momma actually has her munchkin in bed, with time to spare... so here I am!  Boy did we have some great days before our Christmas Break started... my favorite by far was our Set The Stage to Engage Day.

We have four 5th Grade classes in our school. Our specials block runs from 8-9, so we were able to set up four 1-hour rotations (9-10. 10-11. 11-12, & 1:20-2:20). Each room had a different theme, and a different standard as a focus. We had a Break Out room (Christmas Theme), a Constructing Sentences (construction theme), a Punctuation Resturant, and my room was a Figurative Language Safari/Jungle.

In my room students rotated between 5 different figurative language activities. Below you can take a peek into my classroom transformation. <3

Grammar Surgery- Set The Stage to Engage!

Do you ever just have those lessons that make you smile? Our Grammar Surgery Day was a HUGE success. My coworker participated in this as well, and I am beyond thankful for all of her hard work getting it set up. This WILL happen again! :)

Ah summer nights!  I take pride in really soaking in the little things. My morning coffee brings me joy, but so do my summer evenings of reading and Twitter Chats.

Uh-oh, I'm feeling a deep reflection: Don't get me wrong, reading is hard work... always had been for me. I can read something and forget it a moment later. My  mind wanders, my focus is horrid, but my drive is there. I just keep trying. I have always wanted to love it, and I do enjoy it, but I just wish it wouldn't take me so long. Sometimes I need to reread the same paragraph numerous times in order to just grasp the idea. I look back though on how far I have come since school. I got by with average grades, was never labeled as a struggling reading, and had great skills for coping. I think all of this has truly helped me with becoming a strong teacher. I made it, I found strategies to survive, and I love being able to share that with my students. It is great that they know I am human, and I had struggles... but I had the drive, the desire to succeed.

Cheers to drive, challenges, support, & success!
